Search engine optimization
Search engine optimization, also known as seo is the most important internet marketing technique that you can utilized in internet marketing. This technique is very important because of its power in sending you free web traffic. You have a choice, you can either receive free traffic or you can pay for your web traffic. Most people do both; however, with proper seo techniques, your daily traffic can be in the thousands per day. All of this traffic is totally free. Can you see the power in this method?
In this internet marketing course I’m going to give you a quick lesson in seo; however, you will need to learn as much as possible about this technique in order to benefit from it the most.
Quick lesson in seo
First of all, you will need at least twenty good articles on your website. The more articles you have the more traffic you will receive. These articles need to be unique. If your articles are not unique, you’re wasting your time with search engine optimization. Your articles also need to be keyword rich articles. The number of keywords you should use is between five and twenty keywords per article. Make sure they are on one subject or topic per article.
When setting up your website, you must utilize a few key factors.
Domain name
Titles
Headers
Keywords
Meta tags
Sitemaps
Links
Longevity of the website
Unique content
Use bold words in your articles
The domain name is important. If you are marketing SEO products, you’ll want a domain name like “SEO products/com” When someone searches for seo products, your listing will most likely appear first in the search engines. This is just an example and this keyword is probably already used for a domain name. What I want you to understand is how picking a domain name can send you to the top of the search engines for that keyword. To see this for yourself type in learning method online and you will see this site ranks first in the search engines under this keyword phrase.
Titles are also important. Every web page should have a title on the page. This title should also be included in the html code under “H-1” which is the title heading for the web page. This is also the second objective, which is your header code. The “H-1” code should be used on every page to properly optimize that page and title.
Keywords are equally important. Keywords are how visitors arrive at your website. Don’t just use any keyword on your pages, your keywords must be related to the website page or article. Try to use between five and twenty keywords per page. There is no need to use more keywords; it will not get you more traffic. It can actually hurt your search engine rankings and send you unwanted traffic. Remember it’s not about the amount of traffic that you receive; it’s the right traffic that will make the difference.
Meta tags are also vital to seo. The meta tag is used for your description of the webpage. You must use the meta tags in order for the search engines to work properly when they are exploring your site. This lets the search engines know what the page is about.
Site maps are also important. If your website does not have a sitemap, you need to make one right away. When the search engines arrive at your site, they explore the site map first. This lets the search engines know what to explore on the website.
In-coming links are how your website is ranked higher in the search engines. The more in-coming links you have for your website, the higher your site will rank. One key factor; these links need to be from sites that already rank high in the search engines to benefit from this strategy. Links that can be used would include; link directories, article submission sites, forums, press releases, and high ranking websites.
The longevity of the website also plays a factor in your search engine ranking. This longevity will only help you if your website is properly optimized.
On your web pages your keywords and subtitles can be bold. This helps, but don’t over do it! If you have twenty keywords you will not want to bold all twenty words. Bold only the top keywords or sub-titles to use this technique correctly.
This has been your short lesson in search engine optimization. SEO is very important and should be done before your site goes online. You need to learn all you can about seo techniques. This method can save you thousands of dollars a month on website traffic if it is done correctly.
Before you get some web traffic there is one more important step you must take. You must submit your website to a list of search engines. There is software that can help you do this or you can pay some company to do it for you. My recommendation is to do it manually yourself. It will take some time to accomplish but you will know that it has been done correctly.
Here is a list of search engines
The top six search engines would include;
Google
Yahoo
MSN
AOL
Lycos
Ask.com
At a minimum your website should be listed on the above six search engines. Below you will find several more search engines that your site can be listed on. Keep in mind, the more sites you are listed on, the better chances you have of succeeding.
Here they are:
Altavista Yahoo groups Dmoz All the web

Findtarget Peoplepc Kilikfeed Towersearch
Freefind Entireweb livessearching Scrubtheweb
All-websearch Mamma Searchhippo Encarta.msn.com
Deeppindex Comcast.net Ixquick Searcheurope
Exactseek Information Dogpile Izito
As you can see there are a lot of search engines out there on the net that you can get listed on. This is very time consuming, but well worth the effort.
Another method you can use instead of submitting your website to the search engines.
We talked about search engine optimization and building incoming links to your website. When search engines explore other websites that your website link is on, the search engines will view your website also and it will be placed in their data base. Basically, if you build incoming links, you do not even have to submit your website to search engines. The only benefit to submitting to the search engines is for new websites that have no incoming links. If you build your in-coming links first, you can skip submitting your site to the search engines.
Now that you are completely set up and listed on the search engines, let’s get to Internet marketing.
