Promoting a website online can be very frustrating if it’s the first website you ever had to promote. Marketing a business in itself can be a lot of work, but in the online world, if you fail, your online business is a complete waste of time, effort, and money. Therefore, you must be able to successfully promote your online business before it will even have a chance of succeeding.

 

There are two major factors involved in promoting a website online. The factors are; do you have money to invest into your business in the form of advertising, or do you have to promote your online business without funds until profits can be made. Both of these factors should be considered way before taking on a new web business. Many people like the idea of having a successful business, but many also fail when the work needs to be done.

 

First of all; you must understand that operating any type of business is a lot of work; however, in the online world as it relates to operating an online business, most of the work is done up-front. This work would include inventory of products, web design, check out processors, writing articles for your site, and making sure everything is working correctly. The most important part of the up-front work is making sure your website can convert a potential customer into a purchasing customer. If you can not accomplish this, than you have failed long before your first customer ever arrives at your site.

 

Let’s assume that you have already accomplished the up-front work and you are now ready to promote your website.

Your next direction and step will be determined by the above two factors, whether you have money to invest into your business or not! If you have money to invest, your objective of promoting your website will be a lot easier for you, but if you do not have the extra funds, the real work will surely begin.

 

Whether or not you have business funds available, you should follow the same path as to promoting your online business.

 

You should start with pay per click advertising. It is easy to set up a campaign and a daily budget can be utilized no matter what amount of funds you have available, but do not expect to make boat loads of money with a low marketing budget. After your pay per click campaign is in motion you should consider using solo ezine ads. I avoided this type of advertising for many years and it was a very costly mistake. Solo ezine advertising allows you to reach several thousand potential customers each and ever time your solo ads are delivered. This also allows you to build a customer base very quickly and must be part of your advertising efforts.

 

Your next objective is to take part in free online methods of generating potential customers to your website.

These methods would include; writing articles for your own website, writing articles for article directories, video advertising, forum marketing, blogging, viral marketing, and social media marketing.

 

After you have accomplished these forms of free advertising and increased your pay per clicks, plus more ezine advertising with solo ads, you’ll be ready to get involved with direct mail marketing.

 

Direct mail marketing will include; sending out post cards and other mailings to advertise your online business. You can also use classified ads in news papers or in magazines. You also have the option of using full page magazine ads. All of these methods work and should be part of your online and offline marketing efforts.  

 

There are two other forms of advertising I would like to discuss in this article. The first form of advertising has been around for a long time, but it still works well. The method is banner advertising. Banners still work and should be used; however, they can be expensive if not used properly. I use banners a lot, but the banners I use are on my own websites, this way they can be used effectively without costing me any extra money.

The second method I would like to share is email marketing. To use this form of marketing, you must possess a capture page to capture the names and email addresses. Once these email addresses are captured, you can advertise to these customers as long as they do not opt-out of your list. You have to be careful with this form of advertising. You do not want to send too many advertisements or your potential customers will opt-out of your list. You have to provide them with great information to keep them, but you must advertise to them to make profits from them. There is a fine line here; but if you can find a way to accomplish both objectives, you can make a large amount of profits from your list.  

 

There is one other objective that must be met in your online marketing efforts. Your website must be optimized properly for the search engines to send you free web traffic. This technique is referred as Search Engine Optimization or SEO. This technique is mainly accomplished when developing your website. Adding a lot of unique articles to your website also helps with SEO. Articles should be part of your website to inform potential customers with great information. The search engines pick up this information along with the key words, and sends you free web traffic. The key is to have several unique articles for this method to work appropriately. You also have to submit your URL address to the search engines where they will explore this information. SEO is ultimately how your pages get ranked in the search engines. This method is more important than any other advertising method, but is often not even considered when designing most new websites. You must learn about SEO and get this method working for you and your website, the benefits are awesome with this method and is well worth your efforts to implement this strategy.   

I strongly feel that it only takes one traffic generating method used properly to make any online business a success. Most web owners use multiple advertising avenues, but you must understand that when you attempt to do a little of everything, you never get great at the first thing. Here’s a solution! Learn one method at a time, accomplish that method, and only then move onto a different traffic generating method.

 

Promoting your website can be a lot of work, but like any successful accomplishment, the rewards are great!
