Tips To Help You Avoid Home Business Scams
We have all heard the sales pitches for home business opportunities that sound too good to be true. They may claim that you can make big money immediately with no prior experience. While there are some legitimate home business opportunities, it is not always clear to the newbie how to tell a scam from a genuine opportunity.
You will need to research each home business opportunity, especially if a business opportunity requires significant up front investment from you. It is well worth taking some important steps in your research of each opportunity and company. With the proper research, you will be able to avoid dishonest businesses that seek to take advantage of your desire to work from home.
Be wary of any company that requires you to pay them before you can work for them. Most legitimate companies that are looking for home based business workers will be paying you, not the other way around.
Do not send spam emails. Some companies pay people to send out thousands of emails to unsuspecting people. That is called spamming and it is illegal.
Check out the company with the local Better Business Bureau. You can usually do this online at http://www.bbb.org. You may also research current scams online using ScamBusters at http://www.scambusters.org to see if a company has scammed others.
You may see a company's ads claiming that you can make large amounts of money in a short period of time. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
If a company has an offer that expires very soon, like today, and wants payment for their help, don't fall for this. If an opportunity is legitimate, then you should be able to take the time to research it before making a commitment.
Before you start with a home business opportunity, find out in writing from the company things such as how long they have been in business, the time it takes to get paid from them, and their physical location (not just a P.O. Box or an email address).
Read customer testimonials and ask customers questions about the company. If you cannot get customer testimonials about a company, then you are better off not doing business with them.
If you decide to make an investment up front, use your credit card. If the company is fraudulent, you may find it easier to dispute the charges with your credit card company than to get a refund from the company.
Don't invest in any opportunity if you are not comfortable with it. Better yet, find something that you are interested in and will enjoy doing.
If you get caught in a scam, there are some things that you can do. First you need to write to the company, telling them that you feel has ripped you off and asking them for any money back that you may have paid them. If you don't get results from the company, then you may contact your state attorney general, your local consumer protection office and the Better Business Bureau.
